about

Duluth alt-country band The Cutthroats is going back to basics with its stripped-down collection of sad bastard tales from a bar stool with the “The Friendly West End EP.” Singer-songwriter Adam “Old Knifey” Depre dishes catchy one-liners like David Allen Coe with a Twitter handle, but without the racism or the rap sheet. It is the music you want to hear at the end of the night, right before you forget who drove you home.
“The Friendly West End EP” is a tribute to the no bullshit, blue collar, straight whiskey Duluth neighborhood the band favors, and it defines the approach they took to creating the album. Foregoing most technological gimmicks, The Cutthroats tracked and mixed “The Friendly West End” in one day, engineered by Rich Mattson at Sparta Sound. It was mastered by Eric Swanson at Sacred Heart Music Center.
The Cutthroats are a return to a pure, simplified sound: old-fashioned, hard-luck country songs with a rock ‘n’ roll lean. The trio is filled out by Chris Kelly (bass, vocals) and Ben Berg (drums). Kelly brings tasteful bass-lines and nostalgic harmonies to every song. Berg is dexterous with just about any instrument thrown at him. He chooses to play drums.
"The Friendly West End EP" is available now.
